Terms & conditions

1. The Grano service

Grano is an iOS app for discovering specialty cafés. It helps you discover cafés and editorial guides, save lists, record personal visits and collect passport progress. The app’s first cities are Mexico City and Madrid. Signing up on our website for news does not create an app account or provide a downloadable guide. Availability and coverage can change.

Grano is free to use. It does not provide a coffee marketplace, café reservations or payments to cafés. Future paid services would have their own price and terms disclosed before you agree to pay. A website sign-up, a nomination or a curator application does not guarantee admission, publication or employment.

2. Browsing and your account

You may browse public café and guide information without an account. Personal actions, such as saving lists, recording visits and submitting an in-app nomination, require an account. Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access.

You must be at least 14 and meet any higher age or authorization requirement that applies to you. If you are not legally able to accept these Terms independently, obtain the permission required by local law. Do not impersonate another person or create accounts to evade restrictions.

3. Editorial recommendations and café information

Grano’s selections, descriptive tags and stamps are editorial judgments. Cafés do not buy their inclusion or a Grano stamp. Grano decides what to publish and may correct, update or remove entries. A public curator note is optional. Nominations may come from any location and in any language, but accepting a nomination does not expand the app’s discovery coverage or promise inclusion.

Opening hours, prices, locations, accessibility details and other café information can change or be incomplete. Check important details with the café before traveling or ordering, especially dietary and accessibility requirements. Recommendations and stamps are not certifications of safety, hygiene or suitability for a medical or dietary need. Your purchases and interactions with a café are between you and that business.

3a. Optional city-arrival greetings

City arrivals is off by default. You can enable both in-app greetings and local arrival notifications with the City arrivals switch in Grano Settings, subject to your device permissions. Accepting these Terms does not enable this choice. Turn it off on this device to stop both types of greeting; browsing and manual city selection remain available. This choice does not subscribe you to emails or enable café-insights research.

iOS may deliver a local arrival notification while Grano is closed. Arrival detection uses approximate city boundaries and can be delayed, inaccurate or unavailable because of device settings, system limits or changes in coverage. It is a discovery aid, not a travel, navigation or safety service, and does not certify your presence at a café or automatically record a Passport visit. The Privacy Policy explains on-device processing, local records and withdrawal. Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

4. Your content and sharing

You keep ownership of the content you create. You give Grano a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce and technically adapt that content as necessary to operate the service, process your requests and display it to the audience you select. Service providers may process it for those purposes. This does not give us blanket permission to use your private journal, photos or notes in advertising; separate permission would be needed for promotional use.

Your recorded visits, profile and taste information are not visible to other members. Circle and public taste matching are not available. The Privacy Policy explains restricted access and how we handle your personal information.

Lists are private until you choose sharing. Approved shared-list content is accessible to anyone with its link, including people without an account. You can disable sharing, but we cannot retrieve copies or screenshots already kept by recipients. Do not share personal information about someone else without an appropriate basis.

You must have the rights needed to upload or submit text, photos and other materials. Your permission to Grano ends when the content is removed, except to the extent continued processing is needed for technical deletion, permitted retention, legal obligations or resolving disputes. Public café facts and Grano’s independently written editorial content are not removed merely because the nominating account is deleted.

Optional café insights require a separate, affirmative choice in Settings and are available only to people aged 18 or older. If you enable this choice, you authorize Grano’s specifically authorized team to read eligible new visit notes to identify café trends and inform café guidance, within the scope explained in the Privacy Policy. Earlier visits remain excluded. This permission does not authorize publishing your notes, quoting them, publishing attributable summaries, AI training or unrelated promotional use. We may use genuinely anonymous combined trends to inform our editorial guidance.

This choice is off by default. Accepting these Terms does not enable it, and declining does not reduce your access to Grano. You may turn it off in Settings at any time; once saved, withdrawal stops new access for this purpose across your account. Earlier lawful review is not undone, and genuinely anonymous trends may remain. Turning it on again applies only to visits newly saved after that later permission. The Privacy Policy explains the consent records, access safeguards and deletion process.

5. Community standards

Do not submit illegal content, threats, harassment, hateful abuse, sexual exploitation, impersonation, private information disclosed without permission, copyright infringement or deceptive promotions. Do not fabricate experiences, manipulate the service, spam, distribute malware, bypass access controls or interfere with other people’s use.

Grano has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. We remove content that violates these standards and may suspend or close the accounts responsible.

Do not use automated means to extract protected content or overload the service without authorization. This restriction does not limit activities that applicable law expressly permits. Respect café staff, other members and the rights of people appearing in photos.

6. Moderation, reports and appeals

Shared lists and notes require screening before others can view them. Changes can return content to pending review. Automated screening uses Google Cloud Natural Language for shared text; private lists and private visits are excluded. Flagged content and screening failures may require human review. A screening result is not an endorsement of accuracy or a guarantee of safety.

We may restrict visibility, remove content or suspend accounts where reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, comply with law or protect people and the service. Where appropriate and legally permitted, we will explain the reason and how to request reconsideration. Urgent safety or legal issues can require immediate action.

Report content in the app where available or email support@granoapp.io with the relevant link and explanation. We aim to review reports within 24 hours, although investigation and resolution may take longer. You may ask for human review of a moderation decision at the same address. Blocking helps control supported interactions but cannot stop someone opening a publicly shared link outside their account or retaining a prior copy.

7. Café nominations and curator applications

Submit accurate information and disclose relevant affiliations or conflicts when recommending a café. Grano reviews submissions and alone assigns Grano stamps. A recommendation, application or public attribution does not itself authorize someone to represent Grano or publish on its behalf.

Any curator engagement, payment, content assignment or badge authorization requires a separate agreement or approval. Submitting a website form sends the information for review; it does not publish a café, approve an application or grant a curator role. Café nominations, curator applications and contact messages do not subscribe you to marketing emails. Opening a form or email invitation alone does not submit anything. 8. Grano’s intellectual property and copyright requests

Grano and its licensors retain rights in the service’s software, design, branding and editorial materials. You may use the service and its intended sharing features for their intended purposes. These Terms do not transfer ownership of our materials or authorize use of our branding in a way that implies endorsement.

For a copyright concern, contact support@granoapp.io. Identify the work, the allegedly infringing material and where to find it, and provide your contact details, signature, a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized, and a statement that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner, under penalty of perjury where applicable. We may request more information and take action under applicable law.

9. Apple and other third-party services

Your use of the iOS application is also subject to the applicable Apple App Store terms and Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, unless an applicable custom license is provided with the app. These Terms do not override mandatory Apple license provisions or your statutory rights. Apple is not responsible for operating Grano or handling Grano support requests.

Apple’s standard license is available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. Maps, sign-in providers, external websites and services you choose to open have their own applicable terms. Grano is not responsible for their independent services, except where the law makes us responsible.

Your use of the website’s Google Maps city and café search is also subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

10. Availability, beta versions and changes

We aim to provide a useful, reliable service, but interruptions, errors and maintenance can occur. Beta and early-access versions may change or lose data. We may update features and availability, giving notice where required. A roadmap or future-city invitation is not a commitment to deliver a feature on a particular date.

We may use voluntary product feedback to improve Grano without owing compensation for the idea alone. This does not transfer ownership of your journal or other personal content.

11. Ending your use

You may stop using Grano at any time. Account deletion is available in Settings and may require reauthentication. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account. The Privacy Policy explains cleanup, retained operational records and copies others may have kept. Suspension does not remove your right to contact us about your personal information.

12. Responsibility and consumer rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Grano is provided as available without additional warranties beyond those stated or required by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every café detail is accurate. You remain responsible for using directions safely and checking important details with the business.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable consumer guarantees, fraud, intentional misconduct or liability for death or personal injury where protected by law. Any permitted exclusion of indirect or consequential losses applies only to the extent the applicable law allows.

13. Governing law and changes to these Terms

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, subject to mandatory protections that apply where you live. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory local rights or access to courts that applicable law provides. These Terms do not impose mandatory arbitration or a class-action waiver.

We will identify the effective date of published changes and give appropriate notice of material changes. Where law requires affirmative agreement, continued use alone will not replace that agreement. You may stop using the service if you do not accept a change, and request account deletion.
